Sensational Hong Kong

Remember the revolving door in the movie Revenge of the Pink Panther? These same two doors are still causing confusion. You can imagine us each time we tried to exit from The Excelsior Hotel - just like in the movie.  These two revolving doors were especially built for the film and remain the only revolving doors in Hong Kong today.

As promised we started with Taltarni bubbles and ended Valentine’s Day with more bubbles at Tott’s Bar on the 34th floor overlooking Victoria Harbour. We were tired but delirious. And that was just the start. On our next day we toured together and enjoyed highlights which included the Man Mo Temple built in 1847, The Stanley Markets (our first taste of shopping), and breathed in the whole of Aberdeen and the harbor from our very own sampan junk – it was a clear day with a hint of sunshine and all around us were boats, junks and sampans with the multi-stories looming high all around us.  Absolutely breathtaking.

We all shopped till we dropped at the ladies and jade markets, some even went into China to Shenzhen.  Most of us came away with new eye glasses at fabulous prices (does that mean what I think it means?)  The night markets were a treat when we thought we could do no more shopping....because they were always open. We saw The Peak by tram, took the Star Ferry across the Harbor, a rickshaw ride, traditional Yum Cha.  Fabulous shops and arcades, some of us managed to get into the Kee Club.   We loved The Peninsula for High Tea and afternoon gin and tonics and of course Gaddis.  We adored Harvey Nichols and at the end of most days there was show and tell in Lorraine’s room.

Apart from all the shopping and bartering, which we became so good at, we appreciated the time spent together and the new friendships formed. A holiday to remember. Pictures show the story well which you can see at our gallery of Hong Kong photos at www.ladybirds.net.au

In flight together

Jane Harvey, Chairman RFDS, Victoria launched our project ‘In flight together’ at the Valentine’s Day breakfast.

The RFDS services 80 per cent or four fifths of the land mass of Australia from Christmas Island in the Indian Ocean to Lizard Island in the Pacific; they fly over 19 million kilometres each year, and treat an average of 643 people each day.

But without wings The Royal Flying Doctor Service cannot fly and neither can Ladybirds.  There is much on the horizon… stay tuned.

Proceeds from our fundraising activities will go directly towards the wings of one of the new Pilatus 12 aircraft.

And the winner is…

Lorraine being presented with her tickets on the day at the Valentines Day breakfast by Zorin of Orient Express.

In order for the winner of this competition to travel with the other ladybirds on the tour to Hong Kong, airline tickets needed to be issued by February 3 which is why the draw was conducted at our luncheon on February 2 by Zorin of Orient Express. This prize was kindly donated by Orient Express and The Ladybirds Business Network and every Ladybird who purchased a ticket to the breakfast by February 2 was included in this draw.

Lorraine was our Princess and it was an absolute delight to have her with us.

“It was the most wonderful experience to be away with nine wonderful ladies..  I had a ball.  It was an outstanding holiday.  Thanks Orient Express and Ladybirds Business Network.” Lorraine Bettenay

Hi

We’ve received some fabulous feedback from our very busy February… the comments are appreciated and reflect what Ladybirds is all about. Hope you can join us for special events ahead. The Duckcrawl is unique and is always a sold success story of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival.  The VIP evening at Karen Millen with Fran Campitelli on April 5 will have us stitched up for Winter and in May it will be twelve months since Ladybirds commenced. Reserve the time in your diary now to come and celebrate our first birthday at JWOW Wine Bar on May 8. There will be fabulous prizes and a few surprises.  Our media crisis workshops will commence in May.  Hop on board and network, you never know who you'll meet.

“We didn't have the opportunity to meet this morning, but my thanks for hosting the event.  I enjoyed myself immensely.  I thought the Kylie range was stunning.  I look forward to participating in further events. Once again – thanks.” JW

From ladybird to ladybird

Two ladybirds shopping in Shenzhen saw a pair of the latest wedge sandals which must have had Lorraine’s name on them. Guessing her size they brought back a pair that suitably fitted. A gift …….....................just because.

Be the first to preview the Karen Millen collection with an exclusive Ladybirds viewing of their Autumn Winter collections in the fabulous GPO in the city on Wednesday April 5. A fun fashionable evening with refreshments and canapés by Fillings. Ladybirds who purchase on the evening will receive 10% discount of all purchases and as an added treat Fran Campitelli who was one of the stars of our Breakfast Buzz in October will be on hand to offer complimentary advice on styling and image for you. Fabulous door prizes to win including vouchers by Karen Millen, Fran Campitelli, Lifestylers Group and Heading Out. Numbers are limited so book soon.
