Sensational Hong
Kong
Remember the revolving door in the movie Revenge of the
Pink Panther? These same two doors are still causing
confusion. You can
imagine us each time we tried to exit from The
Excelsior Hotel - just like in
the movie. These two revolving doors were
especially built for the
film and remain the only revolving doors in Hong Kong today.
As promised we started with Taltarni bubbles and ended
Valentine’s Day with more bubbles at Tott’s Bar on the
34th floor overlooking Victoria Harbour. We were tired but
delirious. And that was just the start. On our next day we toured
together and enjoyed highlights which included the Man Mo
Temple built in 1847, The Stanley Markets (our first taste of
shopping), and breathed in the whole of Aberdeen and the
harbor from our very own sampan junk – it was a clear day with
a hint of sunshine and all around us were boats, junks and sampans with the multi-stories looming high all around us.
Absolutely breathtaking.
We all shopped till we dropped at the ladies and jade
markets, some even went into China to Shenzhen. Most of
us came away with new eye glasses at fabulous prices (does that
mean what I think it means?) The night markets were a
treat when we thought we could do no more shopping....because they were always
open. We saw The
Peak by tram, took the Star Ferry across the
Harbor, a rickshaw
ride, traditional Yum Cha. Fabulous shops and arcades, some of us
managed to get into the Kee Club. We
loved The
Peninsula for High Tea and afternoon gin and tonics and of course Gaddis.
We adored Harvey Nichols and at the end of most days
there was show and
tell in Lorraine’s room.
Apart from all the shopping and bartering, which we became
so good at, we appreciated the time spent together and the new
friendships formed. A
holiday to remember. Pictures show the story well which
you can see at our gallery of Hong Kong

In flight together

Jane Harvey, Chairman RFDS, Victoria launched our
project ‘In flight together’ at the
Valentine’s Day breakfast.
The RFDS
services 80 per cent or four fifths of the land
mass of Australia from Christmas Island in the Indian Ocean to
Lizard Island in the Pacific; they fly over 19 million
kilometres each year, and treat an average of 643 people each
day.
But without wings The Royal Flying Doctor
Service cannot fly and neither can Ladybirds. There is
much on the horizon… stay tuned.
Proceeds from our fundraising activities will go directly
towards the wings of one of the new Pilatus 12 aircraft.
